1. Introduction

BoardTruth is a personal project that provides an AI-powered rules assistant for tabletop games and RPGs. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to that information. By using BoardTruth, you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information We Collect

• Account information: your email address, name, and profile picture, provided via email/password sign-up or through Google or Discord OAuth.
• BoardGameGeek data: your BGG username and game collection, retrieved from the BoardGameGeek public API when you connect your account. This data is cached for performance and can be refreshed or removed by disconnecting your BGG account in the settings.
• Uploaded documents: PDF and TXT files you upload as rulebooks, supplements, or other game documents.
• Chat history: questions you ask and AI-generated answers provided in response.
• Usage data: page views and web vitals collected via Vercel Analytics, which is cookieless and does not collect personally identifiable information.
• Application logs: structured error and event logs used for debugging and service reliability.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and operate the BoardTruth service.
• To answer rules questions using AI by processing the text of your uploaded documents.
• To display and sync your BoardGameGeek game collection.
• To send authentication emails, such as magic link sign-in, via Resend.
• To monitor and improve service reliability and performance.

We do not use your data to train AI models. Your information, questions, and uploaded documents are never used to train or fine-tune any AI or machine learning model.

4. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following third-party services solely to operate BoardTruth:

• Anthropic (Claude AI): processes your questions and document text to generate answers.
• Voyage AI: generates vector embeddings of your documents for search and retrieval.
• Supabase: stores document chunks and vector embeddings in a managed database.
• BoardGameGeek: retrieves your game collection via their public API.
• Google / Discord: OAuth authentication.
• Resend: transactional email for magic link sign-in.
• Vercel: hosting infrastructure and cookieless, privacy-friendly analytics.

We do not sell your data to any third party.

5. Cookies

BoardTruth does not use tracking cookies. Vercel Analytics is cookieless and collects no personally identifiable information. Session cookies may be used solely for the purpose of keeping you signed in.

6. Uploaded Content

All rulebooks, supplements, and other documents you upload remain the intellectual property of their respective publishers and rights holders. BoardTruth does not claim ownership of any uploaded content, does not distribute it to other users, and does not publish it externally. Documents are stored and processed solely to answer your questions.

7. Data Retention

Your documents, chat history, and account data are retained as long as your account is active. You may delete individual documents at any time from within the app. To request full account deletion or export of your data, contact us at boardtruth@gmail.com.

8. Children's Privacy

BoardTruth is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us at boardtruth@gmail.com. You may also delete uploaded documents directly within the app.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of BoardTruth after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
